Unplug Texas Day on Oct. 21 is a new statewide observance that encourages Texans of all ages to disconnect from electronic devices and devote time to playing, being creative, and spending quality time with friends and family.
The observance highlights the importance of taking breaks from digital technology to engage in more direct, personal experiences that support social connections and well-being.
Fun Ways to Unplug
There are several ways to unplug and enjoy the day:
- Take time to play. Learn about the power of play and get ideas for activities with kids.
- Try a new sport. Research shows that when kids love playing sports, they’re more likely to stay active throughout their childhood. Learn how to make children’s sports a win-win.
- Get creative in the kitchen. Having your kids help make family recipes and share stories can keep traditions alive and create new ones. Find out how to cook up some fun with your family.
- Be active. Go outside and enjoy some time in nature. Make sure to take time to learn and discuss pedestrian and bike safety do’s and don’ts before heading out.
